 Becoming and Staying Connected

How do I Become a Part of the St. Mary Magdalene Community?

  • Sign the guest book in the entry hall and/or fill out a Newcomer’s Information Sheet found on the Welcome Table in the back of the sanctuary by the fireplace and you will be contacted by the Clergy.
  • Choose parish activities you would like to participate in by selecting from the various educational and fellowship opportunities listed in this Welcome! booklet.
  • Stay up-to-date with church activities by signing up for the Community email distribution list as this is also how the newsletter is distributed.

Altar Flowers
If you would like to provide the altar flowers for a service, you may sign up on the bulletin board down the hall to the right of the Parish Office, or call Arlee Kachensky 303.652-4922. The new sign up sheet goes up in January of each calendar year.

Address, Phone or Email Changes
Please submit any changes to the Parish Office to ensure that your information remains current.

Baptism
Baptisms occur in January, March or April, May or June, St. Mary Magdalene Day in July and November. Contact the Clergy or Parish Office.

  • For parents and godparents of children being baptized....... baptismal training is two hours and usually occurs during the week prior to the baptism.
  • For adults...... the baptismal training is participation in the Faith Matters class for 10 weeks which starts each fall.

Birthdays and Anniversaries
At each service all those celebrating a birthday or anniversary before, after, or on that date, are invited to come forward to the altar during the service for a blessing.

  • The tradition is to place a small offering of coins into a special collection box at that time. The offering usually corresponds to the number of years you are celebrating (for example, six pennies for six years; a quarter for twenty-five years; or whatever you can find in your pocket!).
  • The congregation celebrates with you by singing Happy Birthday or Anniversary.

Bulletin Boards
There are several bulletin boards which provide helpful, current information. They are located on the walls to your right and left as you enter the church through the main door. The bulletin boards are:

  • Adult Faith Formation
  • Outreach Ministry
  • Children and Youth Ministries

Parish Ministries/Programs
Please see Page 27 titled: Key Contacts within the St. Mary Magdalene Community for a listing of those people leading the various ministries and programs within the community. If you would like to become involved in any of these ministries or programs, please read the preceding sections in this Welcome! booklet entitled Adult Faith Formation; Fellowship Opportunities; Ministry Opportunities; Outreach Opportunities, Children’s Ministries and Youth Ministries.

Directory
There is a pictorial directory available for minimal cost; some are on the Welcome Table or call the Parish Office. The Directory contains pictures, names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of most everyone in the St. Mary Magdalene community. Periodic updates are provided as needed. To be listed here, please contact the Parish Office.

Email Lists
The email lists are used to disseminate information to parishioners about St. Mary’s.  Our Community list is a parish-wide list that provides information pertinent to the entire St. Mary Magdalene community.  Click on the Communication tab on the left for more information on this and other e-mail lists.

Funeral Services
Contact the Clergy to arrange for services and pastoral care.

Information Kiosk
The Kiosk provides various types of information as well as sign up sheets for upcoming events. It is located next to the Rector’s Office.

Library
You will find the library located at the east end of the main building, a tranquil setting for study, prayer, or finding books for take-home use. It is open for use whenever the church is open. See Page16 for more information.

Membership in St. Mary Magdalene
There are several ways to become a member: by confirmation, by letter of transfer from another congregation, or by actively participating in parish activities and completion of the Faith Matters course.

Name Tags
To further facilitate our knowing one another by name, we wear name tags. If you would like a name tag, please sign up on the clipboard that is on the Welcome Table and a name tag will be printed for you. Name tags may be left at church each week in the alphabetized “cubbyholes” in the alcove at the top of the stairs in the back of the sanctuary.

Newsletter
Check the parish web site for this monthly publication that is full of information about the people and activities of St. Mary Magdalene. Article submission deadline is by the 20th of each month to the Newsletter Editor.

Vestry Members
Please see Key Contacts within the St. Mary Magdalene Community for those on the Vestry.

Weddings
Wedding dates are preferred one year in advance. Premarital counseling is required and usually begins 6-9 months prior to the wedding date. Contact the Clergy for a copy of the St. Mary Magdalene marriage policies. St. Mary Magdalene does not conduct weddings during the season of Lent.
