 Silent Auction

Silent Auction FAQ's

What is the Silent Auction?
The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of St. Mary Magdalene started fundraising many years ago to help meet basic church expenses. Twelve years ago, the ECW decided to try a silent auction and it has evolved into a very successful fund-raiser. The Silent Auction is no longer just an ECW event ~ now the entire church is involved. The Vestry is committed to a goal of setting aside 25% of all of our income for Outreach. The funds raised at the Silent Auction will help us reach this goal.

When is the Silent Auction?
The Harvest Fest Silent Auction is on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Bidding is between 5:00-7:30 p.m. Checkout will begin at 7:30 and conclude at 8:00 p.m.. This year all the parties are first-come, first-served (fixed price), with different parties opening for sign-up throughout the evening. Lots of appetizers and desserts will be passed out throughout the event.

Will Childcare be provided?
Adult volunteers will supervise childcare. Volunteers from the Youth Group will be helping with the childcare to earn scholarship money. Children will be divided into age groups in the education wing. A nursery will be provided.

Why attend?
Some parishioners claim that the parties and events purchased at the Silent Auction fill their social calendars for the year. The Silent Auction is fun for the entire family, plus you can feel good about supporting such wonderful causes (to name just a few: Habitat for Humanity, Mother House, the Youth Group Mission Trip, Community Food Share, Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, Meals on Wheels, St Francis Center).

How can I contribute?
  1. Donate an item, service, or an event. Theme baskets are always popular as well as home-baked and hand-crafted items such as pottery, knitted scarves and holiday decorations. Professional and personal services are always appreciated. What's your specialty? Legal assistance, home decorating or pet-sitting? Do you have a cabin or condo? Tickets to sporting events? Parties are the highlight at our silent auction. Some past events have been Ribs with the Rector, a Kentucky Derby Party, a Brandy Tasting Party, a Ski Day with friends, hikes and many others. Write down your idea on a donation slip, available at the back of the church or at http://stmarymagdalene.org/Auction/. You may also download a Word doc version here. Don't forget to contact our party coordinator, Heather Williams, histratton@mac.com, with your party dates and questions.
  2. Do you know a business owner who will contribute an item or a gift certificate? They will have a letter for you.
  3. See the sign-up clipboard at the kiosk at church or e-mail healeykim@yahoo.com to volunteer for a variety of auction jobs.
  4. Bring an appetizer or dessert on the night of the auction. Sign up sheet at church.
  5. Attend the Auction with your friends and relatives!
  6. Call Kim Obert with any questions, 303-530-1550.

We hope to see you at the 14th Annual St. Mary Magdalene Silent Auction!
